The TENTS are up for the last time at Bryant Park

The Tents are up for us to get that warm feeling we get around this season...yes its officially FASHION WEEK, starting this upcoming Thursday the Tents at Bryan Park have gone up for one last HOORRAHH!

Makes us feel both sad and happy, both excited and miserable, adventurous and insecure...what will Lincoln Center bring? What we sure know is that Bryant Park has become a fashion landmark, our children will learn about the Great Ones that were born in the tents and how it changed everybody forever.

So Long Bryant Park! and lets rock it out one last time!

Catherine McNeil back in action and makes the Cover of Vogue Australia

Model Catherine McNiel is making her comeback next week, gracing the cover of Australian Vogue. McNiel has also confirmed that she would return to the New York catwalks this January. After spending months away from the modeling industry, McNiel was photographed at the Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search with eight horizontal cuts on her forearms, which she refuses to comment on. Her agent, Chic Management's Kathy Ward, claimed they were from a skateboarding accident, but the model’s mother claimed she fell down the stairs.

Catherine’s mother, Melissa McNiel told News.com.au that she never forced her into modeling, and the industry is not as glamorous as it appears. She says the constant pressure to maintain your looks sometimes gets her daughter down.

However, Katy Ward insists that the shoot for Australian Vogue is 20 year old Catherine’s ticket back into the industry, and she will not only walk in New York Fashion Week, but Milan and Paris as well.

We wish Catherine all the best in her courageous comeback and we hope with all of our hearts that she is seeking help if indeed she is suffering from self- mutilation. We know the industry is hard, and the pressure can sometimes be monumental but please talk to someone, anyone, if you are experiencing severe depression. Don’t keep those emotions bottled up.

We’ve already lost one beautiful soul, Daul Kim, and that’s one too many.

Introducing Rachel Rose Scott

Growing up in a small town in Louisiana, Rachel Scott always knew that she belonged in New York City. Although modeling wasn’t her goal at first, her mother often suggested that she maybe consider it. “I look exactly like my mom,” she says. “We’re like twins.”

At the age of 16, while riding home from school she heard a radio announcement about a Pro Scout model call. Although she previously had doubts about joining the modeling industry, she jumped at this opportunity. “The open call was at the local Holiday Inn. I made it through the first round. At the second round I met the booker for Elite Model Management and he signed me that day.”

While finishing high school, Rachel made frequent trips back and forth from Louisiana to New York. “It was tough. I missed a lot of school. I missed my first day of Senior Year because I was shooting in New York.” Soon after, Rachel moved to Harlem and lived with roommates. “I stayed in the model apartments a few times,” she said. “But I wanted to be independent.”

She and a fellow Elite model spent 2 months in Hong Kong, walking in Market Week shows for designers such as Calvin Klein, Valentino, and Versace. She also booked a campaign for the Hong Kong version of Forever 21. “Being in Hong Kong was a culture shock,” she recalls. “The language barrier was really difficult. One client got really mad and screamed at me because I couldn’t understand what he wanted me to do. In Asia they want you to copy exactly what you see in the inspiration picture. You can’t add your own interpretation.” Rachel also walked in a few shows for the Spring/ Summer 2010 New York Fashion week, one being Rebecca Minkoff. She describes the fashion week experience in one word: Crazy.

It’s been 4 years since Rachel first started her career with Elite. She’s currently signed with Race and in the next 5 years Rachel says she would like to go to college and major in English or Creative writing. “Id also like to have a serious relationship,” she said. “I’ve never really had one because of my career. In 5 years I’d like to try being a normal person [laughs]. But definitely still live in New York City.”

From the runway to the big screen

Karin Agstam a good friend of ours for quite a time now came to NY to do some serious modeling, after gracing the runways of Fashion Week and being featured in magazine spreads around the world, Karin decided to give acting a try...previously this year she was the lead in an off Broadway show named: David's Red Haired Death, which we were fortunate enough to be sitting first row on the premiere...

Now it has come to our attention Karin has landed a part in the new Uma Thurman movie, we are very excited for her and cann't wait to see this raising star in the big screen..Keep up the great work and we look forward to see you at the Oscars soon...

A quick chat with Raschell Osbourne

We had a talk with Raschell Osbourne from VNY Model Management.

Raschell coming from Jamaica at 20 years old, has had some very interesting experiences in her life...she started to model when she was 17 years old, her mother agency is Saint International in Jamaica. She started to explain to us how different it is for her in comparison to other models, because in Jamaica there is not really a high fashion market, so she is used to certain clients, certain way to work and then she hits the big apple...and everything is not the way she is used to, the parties, the other models, the agency, the clients, castings...

The hardest thing she encountered was to hist castings, the rejection was tough to handle, she felt her time got wasted when she visited some clients and they flipped through their book and really didn't even payed attention to it, and just said "THANK YOU WE WILL LET YOU KNOW..." Although she enjoys the different environment, she has met some wonderful people at castings, clients and other people that have become good friends of hers that have helped her get used to more of the New York model scene.

A funny moment was when she hit her first Fashion Week casting, and the client asked her to walk and smile...and as a fresh of the boat model she did exactly what she was asked...she walked and smiled as BIG AS SHE COULD :D of course she didn't get the job and until the day she still kicks herself about it, but thinks it a nice memory on how she got to learn how to do things right.

Hanging out with other models, she was the responsible one, taking care of others at parties making sure everybody got home, even taking home some other models with her that weren't very "focused" after a party at late hours of the night, the good Samaritan, the responsible one...

When she first arrived she had a quick experience with other two agencies, she asked to remain nameless, not the most exciting experience about them, but surely something that made her grow a woman and as a model. Her mother agent finally got her in touch with VNY, where she felt right at home, and has been working with non-stop and quite happy.

She wants to give a piece of advice to all the models out there: "Always have someone responsible with you, a friend, a family member, anybody that can back you up, not only financially but encourage you to be the best at what you do...its hard to be alone in this industry so find someone that you can rely on."

A quick chat with Bibi Sharipova

We had the AMAZING pleasure to have met Bibi, she is with CODE MODEL MANAGEMENT.

Bibi happened to walk into our studio during Fashion Week for a casting and when we casted her we could feel something very different in her than many other models we have met, and when you see literally from 80-100 models a day, you know when someone is different. We requested a talk with Bibi and she made the time for us, she came into our studio to talk about her life, goals and ideals…and yes we are shocked in the best way possible about this girl…

First to it be very clear this girl is only 15, but oh what a 15 year old young woman she is, ambitious, focused, knows exactly what she wants, how she wants it…She comes from a little town in Kazakhstan called Stepnogorsk, she started to model at age 13, scouted by a friend of a friend she entered a modeling competition in her town, of course she was the winner. 2 years later she was scouted to come to New York by a friend of Lorraine (President of CODE). Now the interesting part comes, we all know when young models come to New York, they like the scene, the partying, etc..etc…not all of them bust most.

It is hard to find a focused young woman that knows what it takes to be great, and Bibi has this, not only her flawless looks, perfect skin and incredible measurements, but this girl has the attitude to back it up, hard working and not having time to play games, we think Bibi will go a lot of places. Just this Fashion Week, yes being her FIRST Fashion Week season ever, even so we were fortunate enough to be sitting at shows where she graced the runway and turned faces asking: WHERE DID THIS GIRL COME FROM?

Her 3 favorites things about New York are:

1) the people, she loves that there are so many different kinds of nationalities, ethnicities and the energy people have, in her own words “I like the crazy people that even are yelling in the street…is fun”

2) Her job, she explained how she is loving the fact that there is a lot of competition, I know we thought it was weird but then again we see the fire in this girls eyes, she likes the competition because she wants to prove she is the best when she competes against the best.

3) Her agency, she feels just like home and expressed amazing things about Lorraine as President of CODE and as her booker, she explained to us: “she takes care of me, she knows I am young and I think of her as a mother figure here…” also the other models in her agency she has became good friends with.

Her mother being a doctor, has great pride in her daughter and supports her 100%, which we think its amazing since young women like Bibi can push more their careers knowing their family is 100% behind them.

Things like drugs, boys, partying, nightclubs and the general scene are not of her interest, she is here to compete, and to book the big jobs. We are very excited to see Bibi walk more Fashion Weeks and grace the covers of the major magazines in the world.

We will keep you updated on her progress, but for now…keep an eye on this girl she is going places and taking New York by storm.

Casting Call

The Daily has partnered with Beach Bum Tanning Salons to do a customized full page advertorial that will run in The Daily during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York this Fall.

The advertorial will feature four to five models of different skin tones before and after they are airbrush tanned by Beach Bum’s professional airbrush artist. Their airbrush specialist has worked with such celebrities as Blake Lively, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Bynes.

Participating models will receive a free Airbrush Tan that is customized to their skin coloring in addition to body contouring treatment.

The shoot will take place inside Beach Bum Tanning’s 14^th street location at 10am on Wednesday July 22^nd. The shoot will be for two to three hours.

The advertorial will not only be in The Daily during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York but it will also be on display in all five Beach Bum Tanning Salons in the city for the next 6 to 12 months.

We are looking for models with very fair skin tones, medium skin tones, olive skin tones, and African American skin tones (preferably with a lighter African American completion).
